We care about where our tea comes from and how it is treated just as much as you do. That’s why we supply high quality organic teas and go the extra mile to ensure our organic offerings comply with strict Australian Certified Organic (ACO) standards.
Better for you, better for your health, better for the environment
Organic teas are free of synthetic chemicals, pesticides, herbicides and genetically modified components (GMOs). This means you are not consuming harsh chemicals that may have a negative or unknown impact on your health over time.
Furthermore, reduced pesticide use allows the land to be maintained in a more natural way that promotes the health of the soil and other plants within the growing environment, while preserving biodiversity and important local insects and pollinators, such as bees. As tea professionals, promoting health and reducing our environmental impact are core concerns of our business. Consumers benefit from a healthier cup, and a friendly relationship with the environment promotes the increased longevity of the tea industry as a whole.
What are the ACO standards?
The ACO standards are incredibly well respected, being some of the most rigorous and well-regarded organic production standards in the world. The main areas covered are:
Soil fertility and health of the soil must be strictly managed, including maintaining the biodiversity of the area
The types of composts that can be used and methods of composting are strictly regulated
Introduced materials, stock and equipment are residue tested to ensure there is no contamination
Maintaining ecology and the appropriate management of water are critical. Grey and wastewaters are prohibited from use in the crop production area
Pests, diseases, and weeds must be managed without the use of synthetic chemicals
Ongoing monitoring of the land to prevent crop contamination from historic chemical residues
Cross-contamination of GMO crops into certified crops is strictly prohibited
For Certified Organic Production & Blending:
Radiation and fumigation treatment of teas and herbs on arrival into Australia is prohibited
Certified Organic Ingredients are used to blend Certified Organic Products and strict traceability is maintained
Allowable inputs into Certified Organic products are regulated to ensure that organic certification is maintained through the production process
Chemicals used in cleaning and sanitising of work areas are regulated to ensure no chemical contamination during production
As Australian Certified Organic wholesalers, we adhere strictly to the standards to avoid contamination of organic products on site. Our factory is subject to regular auditing to maintain our ACO certification.
A more in-depth overview of the standards is available on the ACO website.
